MOTD
I haven’t watched it for years mainly down to the inane chat between matches where they start with their chosen stories and cherry pick clips to make themselves right. There’s also a lazy, glum smugness about much of the talk that means despite being paid a fortune to talk about football, they only really bother to know a few details about the biggest clubs.

Looks like there will be purely football clips this weekend without any pundits. Politics aside, that’s what they should have been doing anyway. More football, less paying people millions to talk bollocks.

I watch highlights of other sports and that seems to be the model there anyway.

Re: Pentonville
I did say that "it must be obvious he made a lot of money from Walker Crisps and BT Sports back in those earlier years so wasn't a BBC full time employee."

But when you think that Lineker did all this through a limited company with his wife as a partner, he could claim office and staff, car and travel, entertaining and various other expenses and still pay almost £5m in tax, I wonder just how much was he actually pocketing?

Gave up watching MOTD a long time ago, often can't even be bothered to watch catch ups. I thank the two dreaded and obnoxious Davids (moyes and sullivan) for part of this but sick of the biased coverage plus the bigots whose views are too personal. Couldn't help but laugh at lineker 'shedding a tear' for the support he got from shearer and wright, its thanks to him those chumps and others fill their pockets whilst providing a ghastly service! RIP John Motson, puts todays lot to shame!!

In the time period covered by HMRC's case he was working as a freelancer for BT as well which is why HMRC lost.
No idea whether he still does work for BT Sport as I don't have it.

Re: Pentonville
I came across this problem years ago when HMR&C started to claim that freelance designers that we employed and that worked for only one main client, were really tax avoiding.

HMR&C's opinion was that the designers we used where we were their main source of income should be treated as full time employees and we were just avoiding NI and PAYE tax. Of course it was never that simple an equation as it wasn't our fault designers we didn't want to employ full time couldn't find work elsewhere..

As much as I think Lineker is a bit of a woke wanker it must be obvious he made a lot of money from Walker Crisps and BT Sports back in those earlier years so wasn't a BBC full time employee. I'm not sure he still does other work anymore but that may hurry him into retirement rather than pay PAYE tax and NI...

So he is an employee of the BBC, I thought he wasn't?

No, he isn't according to the tax tribunal.

HMRC can appeal the decision.

Like I said at the time ,it appeared to me HMRC were barking up the wrong tree and so the Judge at appeal has agreed.

I don’t know about political appointments but I do know the BBC has been left leaning for donkey’s years.

I see it from abroad but I really don’t care what the ignoramus in the street things about it either. They usually have an opinion given them by Sun & Mirror journalists…

Looks like the BBC are trying a deep fake to get around this problem…..

The BBC has always managed to upset both ends of the political spectrum. But its quite an achievement to be aggravating the right quite so much given recent
political appointments.

I too, used to love radio 4 but it lost the plot after the 2008 banking crisis imo. For several years it was seemingly all they talked about, then they became obsessed with brexit, then covid then immigration and the tories. They seem to have lost all balance, probably because the people that work for them spend excessive time on Twitter which skews people’s perception.

Occasionally I catch a glimpse of the bbc news or hear radio 4 when I’m at my mums and it all seems to revolve around victimhood and obesssions with particular subjects (nhs, immigration, brown people good is a common theme)

Such a shame as it used to be great

That's your opinion, I personally think the BBC produces some superb stuff. I'd happily pay the license fee just for Radio 4 for starters. I listen to a lot of sport on the wireless as well.

yes mate, i'm posting my opinion. you just posted yours. welcome to a forum.

they chose not to remotely remain politically neutral, for that reason ...

Re: MOTD
If BBC staff lose out from this episode its on Lineker. I think he might have realised this now but is probably too self centred to take too much notice. His fame is made and his opportunity to be successful will not be impaired.

The BBC pretty much made the UK commercial music industry along with supporting Classical music and the other arts. Since it chased ratings its legitimacy has diminished and some star turns have raped it.

The BBC should support Brit arts and drop the inclusivity and woke no sense. Bring back Jimmy Saville types.

Re: Pentonville
I actually thought they'd be a surge in figures for this week's MotD with all his FOLLOWERS (who probably aren't even football fans in teh first place) tuning in to support him, so that makes a bit of sense, Nagel.

All this is likely to have completely blown over by the next edition of MotD, and the woke mob would have turned their attention on to some other thing. So probably not good news for GARY and next weeks viewing figures.

the upside - i firmly believe this has brought forward the end of the bbc

it isn't imminent but it was already under pressure before this bullshit

it's an expensive and outdated model

defund the bbc

Re: Pentonville
He didn't present MOTD this weekend. That 400k figure refers to the live FA cup match, and comparing that to MOTD is a bit apples and oranges.
